SMALL FAN FOOTED WAVE
IDAEA BISELATA
Fig 1
ADULT: Wingspan 10 - 15mm. A small species that can be tricky to identify to the untrained eye. With practice the second cross-line on the forewing is noted with ease in the way that it curves around the prominent central dot. The leading edge of the forewing arches towards the tips which become more noticeable with familiarity. Ground colour and strength of markings vary slightly. CHRYSALIS: Pupates in leaf litter. LARVA: Feeds on various low growing plants as well as Dandelions and Plantains. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. Feeds on flowers at dusk. HABITAT: Gardens, woodlands and hedgerows. FLIGHT PERIOD: Single brooded. June to August. STATUS: Resident.  Common throughout the mainland.
